World of Warcraft - Item Upgrading
The upgrade of an item allows players to increase the gear score of an item up to 700, and then add an additional perk. Items can be upgraded if they are in your inventory and you bring them to the kiln.
Certain items are worth upgrading due to their distinctive stats. (For instance the perfect rolled breakpoint armor used in melee PvP). Other items, like weapons don't change much after an upgrade, and aren't worth the effort.
Weapons
Weapons can be upgraded to increase their numeric stats, such as the chance to crit, attack damage PvE and damage from PvP. They also have a flat bonus that increases their damage per second. A lot of weapons also have an unaffected bonus that is activated when three or more identical weapons are equipped in a group. In certain instances, this bonus could amount to more than the amount of damage that a weapon upgrades on its own.
A weapon's upgrade costs depend on the nature of the weapon as well as its current level. For instance, an upgrade to a +2 weapon requires two regular Smithing Stones while a+3 requires four. The number of stones required to upgrade a weapon will continue to increase until it requires the higher level of Smithing Stones, at which the amount will be reset to one.
Upgrades to weapons also change the stats of the base. While this is generally beneficial however, it could have negative consequences too. Upgrades can make things impossible to use, unless you are very lucky.
Upgrades can be made to armor items to improve their stats. For example, if you upgrade chests or helms, it will boost the defense of its base, while gloves and belts will enhance their required strength and dexterity. Armor offers a rerolling option for its Enhanced Defense percent. This means that it can sometimes reroll down to a lower value.
The upgrade template of a weapon will display the new stats it will gain upon upgrading, along with the values of these stats. This means that a change from an 8 attack-damage sword to an 11-attack-damage sword will result in a weapon receiving 33% attack damage. However, the 3% doesn't mean that it will strike for 3 times less often because it's an absolute number.
A weapon can also be rerolled using the green button that has circular arrows within the menu for items. This will reroll the item and change its stats, but it won't reset the weapon's level nor bind to account status.
Armor
Making a few improvements to your armor could make a an enormous difference in your ability to survive. Certain sets offer massive boosts to poison or curse, fire or magic resistance, making the journey through difficult terrain a breeze. In general, the greater defense you can offer your character, the more health you can gain from each point. Therefore, it's a good idea to upgrade your armor.
To upgrade your armor, head to any of the Great Fairy Fountains in the game. There are four fountains in all, and each requires you to complete a specific side quest involving the Stable Trotters musical troupe. After you've completed your main quest and the corresponding fountains, you'll be able to talk to any Great Fairy in order to unlock the menu for upgrading armor.
Each piece of armor can be upgraded to three levels and the amount of materials and Rupees required to complete each level will differ. In general, you're looking at anything from three to five Red Chuchu Jellies and ten Rupees for the initial upgrade, and then anywhere from five Rubies and ten Fire-Breath Lizalfos Horns for each subsequent one. For example the Champion Leathers can be upgraded to +5 defense, allowing you to keep pace with a decent-sized group of enemies in most cold environments, and the Snowquill Headdress can be upgraded to +20 defense, providing the protection needed to survive the full-on assault with a few of your friends.
Be aware that armor can't be upgraded in the same way as weapons, so you'll want to focus on enhancing it to increase physical power if you're a Warrior or Spell Power when you're Mage. It is recommended to save your armor upgrades to upgrade the armor that you'll still be wearing at the end of the story, for example the Ring of Lightning, Spectral Shield or the mask you use in the final boss fight the Monter Parts Merchant Mask.
You can also gain benefits to your armor by presenting the jeweler in Gerudo Town 10 Twinkling Titanite. Generally speaking, you'll want to save these upgrades for the weapon you'll be using to beat the game, like the Longsword, Battleaxe or Warhammer however, it could be beneficial to have a few improvements to the chest armor and helmets that let you stealthy battle some monsters.
Potions
Potions are bottled substances that, if consumed, give the player an effect on their status for a short period of time. There are five types of potions that have different effects and durations. Some potions can be upgraded to increase their effectiveness. You can also increase the effects of certain potions by adding glowstone dust and redstone.
Upgrades to your potion require a specific amount of XP. This can be obtained by making them on a craft table or by storing them in the Alchemist chest. However, the upgrade price will vary based on the type of potion you want to upgrade, as well as on the item's Mark Level and rarity.
To upgrade a potion, right-click on it in your inventory and select the "Upgrade" option from the menu. This will open a GUI where you can select the potions you wish to upgrade and the amount of XP they will produce when upgraded. You can upgrade potions in batches up to five at once, and their XP will be added to the total XP you have.
Once a potion has been upgraded, it will not degrade until you use it again, or break the bottle it's stored in. You can also change the name of the potion by clicking on it in your inventory.
Version 1.7.2 introduced a few changes to the mechanics of potions. For instance splash potions now have the duration of 0:08 (this is not the equivalent of 22.5 seconds shown on the hover display of the item). The potion table can now be made using four Wood Planks and two Glass. It is now able to be utilized in both Survival and Bedrock. Bedrock Edition potions are not compatible with cauldrons like Java Edition. The same applies to using a potion in the cauldron that is filled. This will draw out the potion, and refill the bottle.
Finally, there are lingering potions that are made using splash and dragon breath potions. Redstone can be added to lingering potions to enhance their effect. The potion table is now organized more closely to the Java Edition, and new potions were added, such as potion of leaping, potion of decomposition, and turtle master potions.
Trinkets
A trinket is an ornamental item that is small, cheap or piece of jewelry. It could also refer to an object or ornament that serves a purpose, but is not important as a trinket. In certain cultures, trinkets are used to symbolize friendship or affection, especially between family members.
Trinkets can be upgraded by players as well as weapons and armor, as well as potions. Upgrades can be made by paying the appropriate currency to an upgrade vendor. Trinkets like other items that can be upgraded, can be traded at will without losing statistics.
The upgrade vendors are located in major cities and the capital of each zone, and in some instances in dungeons. Upgrades for trinkets are available with gold, tokens or fragments of a rare trinket.
Upgrades are a less expensive alternative to purchasing a new trinket. It can be done by a player for as little as 12 tokens. The new trinket comes with the same level of base as the old trinket, but it also comes with an additional 1% bonus upgrade.

Players should upgrade their most essential items first. This typically means the top-of-the-line items for their class, then their secondaries, and finally other gear items that they won't replace in the near future (for instance rings or cloaks). For instance, if Haste and Crit are the two most important stats for tankers, they should be focusing on upgrading their chest, helm shoulders, belt, and chest.
Trinkets are able to be upgraded to a higher ilvl after they're no longer needed and the new trinket can be upgraded to have an additional upgrade bonus of 1. A re-upgrade, however, can cause damage to the trinket unless it is salvaged with the Black Lion Salvage Kit, or a salvage tool. This makes upgrading trinkets more expensive than other upgrades, however it is still less expensive than buying the new one.
